Descripción 

The position is available beginning the 2024-25 academic year. Faculty teach and work a set schedule over a nine-month academic year, August – May, that could include day, evening, and weekend duties.

Faculty may be asked to teach on various campuses, in-person, online, hybrid, and virtual learning environments.  Divisions may employ emerging approaches such as fast-track and dual enrollment as appropriate. Course scheduling may include daytime, evenings, and/or weekends.

Provide instruction in Spanish in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate methodologies that demonstrate a commitment to student success while fostering a sense of belonging.  Priorities include candidates with interest and/or experience in teaching beginning and intermediate Spanish through distance learning (synchronous and asynchronous formats), hybrid, and traditional classroom settings.  Meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures. Faculty stay active in departmental governance and duties, and stay current in professional development requirements.  Engages in best practices in language teaching and learning, language variability, and cultivating a deeper understanding of the world’s cultures, which are cornerstones of the discipline.  Candidates will also be responsible for preparing syllabi, lectures, class materials, and class assignments.

Requisitos 

Minimum qualifications requirements for faculty positions are governed by our faculty qualification standards. This position is in an Academic discipline and requires the following to obtain Pima Community College teaching certification:

  • Master’s degree in the field of study OR
  • Master’s degree in any discipline and 18 graduate semester hours in the field of study OR
  • Master’s degree in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching, Bilingual Education, Language, Reading and Culture, Mexican American Studies, or Latin American Studies AND one of the following:
    - Evidence from a language assessment of Advanced-Low language proficiency level as per the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language (ACTFL) guidelines in speaking, reading, listening, and writing as assessed by Language Testing International (www.languagetesting.com) or C-2 level proficiency in the Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) exam.

    - A letter from the Spanish department of the degree institution certifying language proficiency.

    - A degree taught in the target language from a country of the target language.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching Spanish language courses in higher education.
  • Experience with innovative teaching methodologies.
  • Experience teaching online courses and/or alternative instructional formats.
  • Experience using a Learning Management System, preferably D2L Brightspace.
