The British School, Kathmandu is seeking a passionate and talented teacher of Spanish or French to lead our thriving World Languages Faculty.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting students in an appreciation of language and culture and inspiring them to want to communicate in languages that are new to them.

At Key Stage 3, all students study two languages from a choice of French, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese and Nepali. All students are required to take either French, Spanish or Mandarin Chinese at IGCSE. A level languages are offered, subject to a sufficient interest. There is also a small group of students studying first language French outside the standard school curriculum and an active “Leading Linguist” group - students who are also passionate about prompting languages at the school.

As well as being part of your academic faculty team, all teachers are members of a Key Stage pastoral team and will be mentor (tutor) to a small group of up to 12 students. Mentors meet with their mentor group at the start of each day for a 20minute structured mentor programme, as well as teaching a weekly PSHE lesson.

All teachers contribute to our extensive co-curricular activities programme, with a minimum commitment of one hour per week throughout the year. Educational trips and residential visits form a key part of our curriculum and all teaching staff take part in the annual school expeditions where each year group takes part in a week long adventure or service expedition where there is the opportunity for students and teachers alike to experience Nepal outside the Kathmandu valley.ç
