Descripción

The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Department of World Languages and Literature invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with an earned doctorate in Hispanic Literature and Culture.

Candidates should have specialized knowledge in Transnational Studies with a focus on Spain and Latin America, and additional qualifications in Digital Humanities and/or Environmental Humanities. ABD candidates will be considered, however, must have their degree in hand prior to July 18, 2025. Candidates are expected to have native/near-native proficiency in Spanish and English. The teaching workload is 9 hours per semester with an additional 3 hours of research time. We envision that an individual with proficiency in these areas can significantly contribute to curriculum innovation, addressing curricular gaps while also responding to evolving trends in academia.

Anticipated start date is August 18, 2025.

This individual would also serve as an active member of the department (and outside the department as needed) in taking new directions that respond to innovative and updated approaches to teaching (for example, the inclusion of AI). Teaching assignments will include courses at all levels (both graduate and undergraduate), such as the introductory language sequence, Spanish for Heritage Speakers, Composition, Spanish and Latin American Literature and Culture, and interdisciplinary courses that explore the intersection between Spanish and other fields (e.g., health). In addition to teaching, the candidate will conduct and publish scholarly research; foster a culture of equity, belonging, and representation; advise students, and engage in service to the Department, the University, and the community.

The successful candidate will facilitate productive partnerships between the humanities and/or adjacent fields like technology and science. The Department encourages, values, and supports collaboration and partnerships with other units including the Office of Latino/Latin American Studies, Service Learning Academy, the Division of Innovative and Learning-Centric Initiatives, Women’s and Gender Studies, Black Studies, Medical Humanities, and the Goldstein Center for Human Rights.
