The School of Languages and Linguistics invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor rank to begin August 2023. We seek a broadly trained faculty member with teaching and research expertise in Linguistics and Spanish. This position is a continuing, tenure-track, 9-month appointment to start August 16, 2023. Tenure will be housed in the School of Languages and Linguistics.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will contribute to the Spanish program at the BA level and the Linguistics program at the BA and MA levels. This position includes teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; maintaining a record of scholarly research and publication appropriate to the discipline; supporting student research at both undergraduate and graduate levels; advising and mentoring students; and engaging in service activities appropriate to academic rank. The typical teaching load for untenured faculty in the School is two courses per semester.

Requisitos 

Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Linguistics, Spanish/Hispanic Linguistics or related field. ABD applicants will be considered if all requirements for the PhD will be completed by August 15, 2023. If all requirements are not completed by August 15, 2023, a term, non-tenure track appointment may be offered in accordance with University policy.

Candidate must be able to show evidence of an active research agenda and/or potential to develop a strong program of independent research; evidence of excellence in teaching; and ability to teach in both English and Spanish. This position requires native or near-native proficiency in Spanish.

Candidate must be able to teach courses on Linguistic Structure of Spanish, Spanish in the USA, and Hispanic Linguistics at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The candidate will also be expected to teach other courses in Linguistics and develop new courses in Spanish and/or Linguistics to complement the associated programs as appropriate to their specialization.

Preferred Qualifications:
Expertise in Spanish of the Americas, heritage learners of Spanish, and/or indigenous language(s) of the Americas. Ability to teach linguistic field methods. Peer-reviewed publications in well-respected journals and/or presses. Experience advising or mentoring students in Spanish Linguistics, heritage languages, and/or indigenous language(s) of the Americas.
