The University of Texas at Tyler, a dynamic and growing institution committed to fostering academic excellence and innovation, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Instruction in Spanish. This position will start with the Fall 2027 semester.
Start date: Fall 2027 semester. Full-Time, 40 hours per week, regular position. Hiring department: Literature and Language. Location: UT Tyler Campus; Tyler, Texas.
Key responsibilities: teach a range of Spanish classes at lower-division, upper-division, and graduate levels; collaborate with the head of the Spanish program and department chair on curricular development and assessment; assist the CAS Advisor in the advising of Spanish majors and minors if needed; promote the Spanish major, minor, and certificates; respond to and communicate with students, colleagues, and the department chair in a timely fashion; participate in one department committee in addition to the Spanish Assessment Committee; attend departmental meetings; maintain regular on-campus presence.
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
Ph.D. in Spanish. Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and professional development.
Experience, or some form of expertise, in teaching two or more of the following: Medical Spanish, Advanced Grammar in Spanish, Writing Proficiency in Spanish, and Hispanic Culture, Civilization, or Literature. Interest in leading an international study abroad course. Experience in face-to-face and online teaching. Experience in or willingness to teach 5-week and 15-week classes. Experience with the ethical integration of AI into courses.
Proven ability in building trust through collaborative decision-making, embracing shared governance, and integrating with the campus community.
