The Residential College (RC) in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan is seeking applicants for a full-time Lecturer III to teach courses in the Spanish Program and to serve as the coordinator for the Intermediate Intensive Spanish II course.

The RC is a four-year, living-learning community for the undergraduate student population on the University of Michigans Ann Arbor campus, and an interdisciplinary unit within the College of LS&A that promotes dialogues among social studies, humanities, languages and the arts.

This is a full time, non-tenure track position with a university-year appointment period will begin August 25, 2025. University-year appointments run August 25, through May 24 every year.

A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer III in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts is three (3) courses per semester, or the equivalent in administrative and/or service duties.

The initial appointment period will be one (1) to four (4) years (depending on qualifications), and the appointment may be renewed (based on programmatic need, funding, and performance). The appointment is subject to final approval by the college.

The Residential College Spanish Program is one of five intensive semi-immersion language programs that combine rigorous linguistic training with curricular flexibility and a high degree of interaction between students and instructors. The core of instruction lies on a sequence of two intensive 8-credit courses that prepare students to attain advanced proficiency as measured in a comprehensive exam testing

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will serve as coordinator for the Intensive II course of this program (RCLANG 294) and teach four courses throughout the academic year (fall and winter terms), beginning August 25, 2025.

Teaching responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and coordination of this team-taught course and will teach the lecture portion(s) of the course each semester. This includes the design, maintenance and update of the syllabi and the Canvas site. The coordinator will also be able to design a Readings seminar of a topic of choice to be taught in the Winter term provided the teaching needs for the Intensive II course semester are met. 
Additional teaching responsibilities include participation in 2-3 lunch tables and coffee hours per week and administering assessments at the beginning, midterm and end of the semester, including official narrative evaluations submitted in lieu of letter grades. 
Additional duties include participation in college- and program-wide activities.

Administrative responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the coordinator of the Intensive Spanish II course are listed below; these extend throughout the academic year:
- Attend regular meetings of the faculty in the program 
- Oversee the work of the instructors teaching the discussion portions of the course, including class visits, training workshops on our proficiency scale and pedagogical strategies,
- Participate in the administration and grading of the proficiency exam three times per year 
- Work closely with the Program Head on curricular changes, assessments, training and program needs
- Interact and work closely with the RC Academic Services office
- Serve in college-wide committees
- Remain actively engaged in language pedagogy training and development

Requisitos 

Required Qualifications

Master or advanced degree prior to the start date of the position. 

The successful candidate will have deep familiarity with language proficiency assessment, and extensive experience in language instruction, including advanced syntax. Additional experience in intensive, semi-immersion or non-traditional language programs is strongly encouraged. Established academic interests in a range of academic subjects pertaining to the Spanish-speaking world is expected and welcome in order to foster rich linguistic exchanges with college students.
