The Department of Modern Languages & Literatures at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invites applications for a 3 year, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor of Modern Languages & Literatures (Hispanic Studies) instructional position that will begin August 10, 2026. This full-time teaching faculty appointment carries a service component commensurate with rank and comes with the possibility of ongoing renewals and a framework for promotion per the Teaching Faculty Framework.
We seek an individual with ample experience teaching all levels of Spanish language at the university level from Beginner to Advanced Language courses, as well as notable experience teaching upper-intermediate courses in Hispanic Literary/Cultural Studies and/or Second Language Acquisition/Hispanic Linguistics. The successful candidate will be an experienced language instructor and will have a 3-3 teaching load focused primarily, but not exclusively, on Spanish language instruction from Beginning to Advanced grammar/composition as well as occasional courses at the Intermediate and Advanced levels. Additionally, the successful candidate will possess the ability to teach compelling general education courses for non-majors as part of W&M’s COLL curriculum. Finally, the successful candidate will have demonstrable experience collaborating in programmatic/departmental initiatives as well as experience in mentoring/advising.
Required Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in Hispanic Studies or related field is required. Native or near native proficiency in English and Spanish.
- 2+ years of experience teaching Spanish language at all levels of the curriculum and at the university level.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. or ABD in Hispanic Studies and/or allied fields at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2026). 2+ years of teaching experience at the university level is required with preference given to instructors with experience teaching at all levels of Spanish language instruction as well as experience teaching courses in Hispanic Literary/Cultural Studies and/or Second Language Acquisition/Hispanic Linguistics.
