The Department of Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, Lecturer of Spanish for Heritage Speakers to begin Fall 2025. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a curriculum tailored to the linguistic and cultural needs of heritage Spanish speakers. This position involves fostering language development, cultural appreciation, and academic success in students with varying levels of proficiency in Spanish.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Instruction: Teach four courses per semester at the undergraduate level, utilizing innovative pedagogical approaches to engage and challenge students. Be able to utilize and adapt to diverse teaching modalities.
  • Assessment: Develop and administer assessments to measure student progress, adjusting instructional methods as necessary to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Community Outreach: Organize and participate in cultural events, workshops, and extracurricular activities that celebrate and explore the rich diversity of the Spanish-speaking world.
  • Collaboration: Work under the supervision of the Director of Spanish Heritage Language Program to align course offerings with its objectives and to support the overall mission of the institution. The successful candidate will also assist the program director in program-related activities geared towards recruitment, retention, curriculum development, among others.

Requisitos 

Faculty Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English.
  • A minimum of one year of demonstrated experience teaching Spanish to heritage speakers at the post-secondary level.
  • Strong understanding of the linguistic, cultural, and educational needs of heritage language learners as evidenced by coursework and teaching experience.
  • Ability to implement a culturally responsive curriculum through coursework and community involvement.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment by applying best teaching practices in the field.

Preferred Qualifications

  •  PhD in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Exceptional skills with digital tools and resources for language instruction.
  • A minimum of one year of experience with online teaching and online course design.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in course or program coordination
