The mission of the Department of Language and Literature at North Carolina Central University is to engage students in languages, cultures, literatures, linguistics, and writing. We foster students’ analytical and creative thinking, problem-solving abilities, and communication strategies to prepare students for their responsibilities in civic and professional life.
The department offers an English M.A., B.A.s in English, Spanish, and Interdisciplinary Studies, and minors in Spanish, German, philosophy, literature, and writing. We host the Spanish Club, the Ex Umbra literary magazine, the Eagle Creators Society, and several other student clubs and honor societies. Language and Literature faculty contribute to many interdisciplinary initiatives including Women’s and Gender Studies, Global Studies, Service Learning, undergraduate research, and Digital Humanities.
Our Spanish curriculum starts with elementary and general education coursework and continues through advanced undergraduate coursework. The undergraduate Spanish B.A. programs include a degree with licensure and a degree without licensure as well as Spanish and Hispanophone Africana Studies minors.
NCCU, a member of The University of North Carolina System, is the nation’s first public historically black liberal arts college. The campus of approximately 6,000 undergraduate students and 2,000 graduate students is located in Durham, North Carolina, a dynamic, diverse part of the state known for its universities and high social capital. The University continues to serve its traditional student body of African Americans while expanding on its commitment to meet the educational needs of a student body that is diverse.
Primary Purpose of Position
To teach four courses per semester in Elementary Spanish Language and Culture, and Spanish in the Professions as needed by the department consistent with the faculty member’s areas of expertise.
Responsibilities
Teach four (4) courses per semester; hold ten (10) office hours per week; prepare for class sessions; grade and provide feedback for student work.
Requisitos
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; excellent research and analytical skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others; strong knowledge base in language and literature or related subject matter.
Minimum Education/Experience
- M.A. in Spanish or Romance Languages.
- Two years of teaching experience at the university/college level.
