$41 000 to $42 000 per nine-month academic year. Additional compensation may be available for summer teaching.
Descripción
The Spanish Program is part of the World Language Program, which is housed in the Department of English and World Languages. The Spanish Program offers a major and minor. The major is intended to prepare students for the many careers where educated bilingual speakers are highly valued, for admission to graduate school, and for public school teaching and certification. The minor intends to complement a wide variety of majors in other disciplines, and enhances the students’ ability to compete for jobs where knowledge of a second language is desired. The Department of English and World Languages is dedicated to upholding the university’s vision by providing interdisciplinary education and is committed to the academic success of each student.
This is a nine-month position with the potential of summer teaching for additional compensation. Responsibilities include teaching 12-credit hours per semester. Teaching assignments are based on department needs and candidate’s area of expertise. These teaching assignments may include courses in first, second and possibly third-year level Spanish. Advanced proficiency in Spanish is expected, as is proficiency with instructional technology. Lecturers hold office hours, provide one-on-one feedback to students, participate in ongoing professional development, attend program meetings, mandatory training, and other related events, as necessary.
The successful candidate will have a desire to teach and mentor students who have been historically marginalized and underserved. The person in this position should have a strong sense of collegiality and a willingness to participate in a unified and lively department.
