Descripción 

Pitzer College invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish, with a two-year term. The field of specialization is open. Ability and/or experience teaching Portuguese Language courses is a plus.  

The successful candidate will be joining the Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (MLLC) field group (academic department), which offers courses in Spanish, Portuguese, and French language and cultures. 

The successful candidate’s responsibilities in teaching will include teaching a total of five courses per year as needed, including lower-division Spanish language courses, upper-division courses in Iberian and/or Latin American and Caribbean Studies (taught in Spanish), and, if applicable, Portuguese language courses appropriate to the candidate’s Portuguese ability.  The successful candidate will be able to work collaboratively with other members of the field group. 

Requisitos 

Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in language teaching at the undergraduate level, as well as experience in teaching language at all proficiency levels.  Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish is required.  Evidence of promise in scholarship and a PhD in Spanish or a related field is required.  Social science and/or humanities perspectives on issues of contemporary relevance to Latin American and/or Iberian Studies, and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and scholarship are preferred.  

Ability and/or experience teaching Portuguese Language courses is a plus.
