The salary for this position is ​$54,000 - $55,000.

Descripción 

T​he Department of Spanish and Portuguese seeks to hire a full-time, renewable instructor of Spanish with a 4-4 teaching load, teaching beginning to advanced courses in our program. For purposes of annual merit evaluation, instructors are assessed at 85% teaching and 15% service obligations. The successful candidate will receive a 3-year appointment and will undergo a reappointment review in order to be considered for a subsequent 3-year appointment. The expected start is Fall 2023.

The responsibilities of the position are to teach 4/4 load of courses from beginning to advanced level within a coordinated program and to carry out service responsibilities commensurate with the position. With time, there is the possibility of course coordination duties as needed by the department.

Requisitos 

  • A​n ​​M.A. in Spanish with a specialization in Heritage or Second Language Acquisition (or related field) and native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English. Candidates with an MA in Spanish with other specializations but with prior coursework, research and/or teaching experience in Spanish as a Heritage Language are also encouraged to apply.
  • At least two academic years of experience teaching beginning to advanced Spanish language courses at the post-secondary level (these two academic years of teaching experience could be part-time and/or have occurred during graduate studies).

  • The ability to work with people from a diverse set of backgrounds and the ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Knowledge in heritage language teaching.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • A Ph.D. in Spanish with a specialization in Heritage or Second Language Acquisition (or related field) and native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching evidenced by student and supervisor feedback, have experience teaching Spanish as a Heritage Language, and have experience in the scholarship of Spanish as a Second or Heritage Language (e.g., conference presentations, publications, and/or contributions to workshops).
